French Embassy PISCCA Funded Project
Sustainable Artisanal Fishing and Environmental Conservation for marine Biodiversity in Vilankulo
With support from the French Embassy through their PISCCA program, we are worked with six community fisheries councils and eight primary schools along the coast of Vilanculos to develop sustainable fishing practices for conservation of marine biodiversity and increased fishing income. Our work included strengthening local fisheries councils, developing LMMAs (Locally Managed Marine Areas) or “no take” reserves, mangrove restoration, environmental education in schools, and marine waste cleanup campaigns.
